Mir Castle – a valuable monument of the national culture of Belarus

Mir Castle complex is a valuable monument of the national culture of Belarus. In 2000, it was included in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. Mir Castle is an example of defense architecture of the 16th and 17th centuries. At various times, it was the residence of famous families.  Here lived Ilinichi and Radziwill, Wittgenstein, Svyatopolk-Mirsky.

Several interesting historical sites can be found on the 26 hectares of the castle complex. This is the Mirsky Castle itself, the church-tomb of the princes Svyatopolk-Mirsky and the ruins of the palace. As well as an outhouse, a guard’s house, a roadside chapel, earthen ramparts with bastions. 

The picturesque English landscape park with a pond and the remains of an Italian garden are pleasing to the eye.

The museum has 39 exhibition halls. In addition to sightseeing and thematic excursions, theatrical ones are also offered. Moreover, for newlyweds who want to make their special day truly unforgettable, the Mir Castle Wedding ceremony will be held here.

There are a lot of people who want to visit this unique monument of architecture of the 16th century. Last year, Mir Castle received 275,000 tourists. The number is impressive! In addition, in August it received the three millionth visitor since the opening of the castle complex in 2011.

In 2027, the castle will be 500 years old. Preparations for the anniversary are already underway and cover a variety of areas. The next event is the opening of the Horse-drawn Transport Museum. Four carts and two sledges were purchased for this purpose. They plan to buy horses. The novelty will be a worthy addition to hiking and cycling tours. Judging by the beginning of the year, many guests  expected to visit Mir Castle. After all, only in the first month of the year more than 15 thousand people visited it! In addition, this is almost twice as much as in January last year.

Today Mir Castle consists of two conference halls for holding important events, a 16-room hotel, a souvenir shop with products made by our craftsmen, and a restaurant serving Belarusian cuisine.
