Nesvizh Palace and Park Complex with diverse architecture and the largest landscape park is the most beautiful place in Belarus and one of the brightest sights of the country.
The palace and park complex in Nesvizh is surrounded by the ponds of the Usha River. It is a gorgeous stone castle with luxurious interiors, castle fortifications, a large landscape park with sculptures and beautiful ponds. The palace was famous for its powerful castle fortifications, huge library, elegant art gallery, unique valuables and real treasures.
In the first half of the XVI century, the Radziwill family, one of the most powerful and wealthy, became the owners. The initiative to build a stone castle belongs to Nikolai Kristof “The Orphan” Radziwill .The first stone in the foundation of the Nesvizh castle was laid in 1583. By the beginning of the XVI century, the construction works were almost completed. The rampart up to 20 metres high was reinforced with stone. Four defence towers were constructed at the corners of the strongholds.
By the beginning of 1770, the castle library had about 20 thousand volumes of books. It was the largest private library. Moreover, there were 984 paintings in the art gallery.
The palace and castle complex was built and rebuilt over 3 centuries. It combines the techniques of medieval architecture with the styles of late Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism and the original art of local craftsmen.
At the end of the 19th century, the magnificent architecture of the Nesvizh Castle was complemented by the picturesque natural surroundings: beautiful parks and alleys, elegant statues and blue ponds. The alleys here were planted from saplings and seeds that were brought from the garden of the Berlin Palace of the Radziwill Princes.
In 1993, the National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve was established in Nesvizh, which included the castle. In 2005, the palace and park complex was included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.
The Nesvizh Castle and Park with ornamental lakes and shadowy alleys with a total area of 100 hectares of land is the most beautiful palace and park complex in Belarus, attracting many tourists.
From the outside the palace always looks very romantic: a monumental building with harmonious towers of different sizes drowns in the greenery of trees. Moreover, the water in the ponds and bright greenery of the landscaped castle completes the formation of the palace and castle complex.
