The pine cone collection season is coming to an end in the Gomel region

This year, 225 tonnes of forest seed are planned to be collected in the south-eastern region of the country. Zhlobin Experimental Forestry has a special plantation with a total area of about 11 hectares for collecting cones. Seeds of improved quality are obtained there. The raw material is collected exclusively manually at a height of 6 metres. First the crop is allowed to lie down, and then it is inspected on a conveyor belt. The part that has passed the selection process is put into a drying cabinet. All in all, at least 7 steps are required from a whole quality cone to a ready seed. Only then are the seeds transformed into a seedling.
