The Day of Older Persons is celebrated in Belarus

On 1st October, Belarus celebrates the Day of Older Persons. The President congratulated on the Golden Generation holiday. Today, almost 1.628 mln citizens over the age of 65.000 and more than 41.000 people over the age of 90 live in the country. There are about 600 centenarians, about 90% of them are women. The leader in the number of centenarians is the city of Minsk. The oldest residents of the capital are 107 years old. Support and assistance to the older generation is one of the priorities of state policy. There are 80 social boarding schools and 146 social service centers in Belarus. Social assistance at home is a popular service. In total, about 190.000 elderly citizens are covered by social services.
