Several tens of thousands of verdicts will be subject to review when updating the annexes to the legislation

This was stated by First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Belarus V. Kalinkovich. The other day the President signed the law "On Amendments to the Codes on Criminal Liability," which comprehensively improves the criminal and criminal procedure legislation. The amendments, which improve the situation of a person who has committed a crime, have retroactive effect: they also apply to cases when the crime was committed before the milder criminal law came into force. In practice, this will mean that the provisions of the updated legislation will be applied by the courts not only when considering current cases, which today-tomorrow-tomorrow will come up for consideration. But also by virtue of the law will be subject to review of several tens of thousands of sentences that were passed before the entry into force of this law under the old criminal law sanctions.
