Orthodox Christians have begun Great Lent
03.03.2025
This is a forty-day period of abstinence from fatty foods, entertainment, a time of special prayer and good deeds. The purpose of Lent is to give a person an opportunity to purify himself spiritually and physically, to prepare for the bright feast of Easter. The main celebration of the Orthodox calendar — the Resurrection of Christ — falls on April 20. This year, both Orthodox and Catholics will celebrate the holiday on the same day.
