N. Kochanova together with the speakers of the parliaments of the CIS countries laid flowers at the Piskaryovskoye Cemetery
The ceremony was one of the events of the spring session of the CIS IPA. The Piskaryovskoye Cemetery is one of the largest memorials of the Great Patriotic War. The speakers of the CIS parliaments laid wreaths and flowers at the foot of the monument "Motherland", which is considered a symbol of courage and fortitude. In the Piskaryovskoye Cemetery rest 420.000 Leningraders who died from hunger, cold and shelling, as well as 70.000 soldiers who heroically defended the city. This place has become an eternal reminder of the price paid for freedom and future. The parliamentarians observed a minute of silence in memory of hundreds of thousands of victims of the siege of Leningrad and defenders of the besieged city. Participants of the spring session of the CIS IPA today also discussed a number of model laws. A solemn session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory is taking place at the Tauride Palace.
