Klebsiella pneumoniae tops the World Health Organization's list for continuous surveillance. The microorganism is 90% resistant to antibiotics, is transmitted through blood and is capable of causing severe forms of infections of absolutely any organ. It took about 10 years to research bloodstream infections. Genetic diagnosis and the PCR method helped to understand the cause of severe forms of disease and to determine a cure. The resistance of the bacterium to drugs is changing every day, and therefore research continues. To eliminate the threat in the future, specialists are testing new combinations of drugs.
