Entomologist from Vitebsk received a Presidential grant
A Vitebsk scientist studies the biodiversity of butterflies in coniferous forests of the Belarusian Lakeland. The project of the associate professor of the Department of Fundamental and Applied Biology of Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov received a grant from the President of Belarus this year. Yevgeny Derzhinsky is studying the winged insect in detail to determine the species of the butterfly. Working in the laboratory is the final stage of research. Most of his time is taken up by expeditions. Thanks to the project supported by the Head of State, the scientist-entomologist will be able to collect information about what kind of butterflies live in the forests in the north of the country. Today there are over 2 500 species of butterflies in Belarus. New ones may appear. For example, the American white butterfly, which has never been found in Belarus before, is moving to the north due to climate warming.
