Elections of members of the Council of the Republic of the eighth convocation took place in Belarus

Senators from the regions are elected at meetings of deputies of local councils, and from Minsk – at a meeting of the city Council of Deputies. After speeches by the candidates and a public discussion of their candidacies, a secret vote was held. Candidates who received more than half the votes of the deputies was considered elected. Chairman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova noted that the newly elected senators are not only professionals in their field, but also people who know how Belarusians live.
