Development of satellite towns is a strategic direction of regional policy
The development of satellite towns, construction of social infrastructure facilities, improvement of the quality of life in small settlements are the priorities for the next 5 years outlined by the Head of State in the regional policy. First Deputy Head of the Administration of the President N. Petkevich saw how it works on the example of Smolevichy. N. Petkevich made a working trip to the satellite town of Minsk. For several years Smolevichy has increased in population and total area of the town. Eight new houses have been built, 19 more are planned, a new polyclinic and a school have been put into operation. According to the general plan the number of city residents should increase up to 50.000 people by 2035. The general emphasis of the meeting was on the solution of a complex problem: to keep Minsk comfortable for living and to create decent living conditions in the satellite towns, not worse than in the capital. Among the President's instructions for the further development of communication between Minsk and its satellite towns is the launch of a streetcar or an overland metro.
