President Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed condolences on the death of the Pontiff. "In Belarus we have taken the news about the end of the life of His Holiness Pope Francis with a feeling of deep sadness. Francis' many years of service to Christ were full of love for the congregation, for all people, for the whole world. As a true humanist and defender of the interests of the common man, the Pontiff made an invaluable contribution to ensuring social equality and justice. The Pope's activity became a testimony of deep faith, wisdom and humanism. I recall with warmth the official visit to the Vatican and the thoughts exchanged with Francis in sincere letters. I am grateful for his work on strengthening mutually respectful relations between Belarus and the Holy See", the letter of condolence reads.
