Belarusian archaeologists have discovered sensational finds in Gomel Oblast
14.07.2025
Dozens of unique artifacts have been brought to the surface on the territory of the ancient settlement in Rogachev district. Among them are a fragment of an iron chain mail, an arrowhead, a ring, pottery, knives, a Byzantine amphora, fragments of glass bracelets. The finds confirm the version that in ancient times there was a large city on the territory of the present agricultural town of Luchin and that it appeared much earlier than the first mentions in the chronicles. It is reliably known that Luchin was the borderland of the Smolensk, Chernigov and Polotsk principalities, and the path "From the Varangians to the Greeks" ran through the city. More detailed scientific results of the expedition will be known later.
