Preparations for Belarusian People's Congress discussed at meeting with President
Less than a week is left before the first meeting of the Belarusian People's Congress; preparations for the event have reached the home stretch. The meeting at the Palace of Independence focused on the readiness for the upcoming forum. This is the seventh Belarusian People's Congress in the sovereign history of the country. However, this year it will be held in a new high constitutional status for the first time (this is spelled out in the updated Basic Law). Now the Belarusian People's Congress is the highest representative body of democracy. It will determine the strategy for the development of society and the state, ensure civil harmony, and the inviolability of the constitutional order. The President demands impeccable organization of the work of the Belarusian People's Congress. Let us remind you that the composition of the Belarusian People's Congress has already been approved. It will include delegates representing different walks of life — 1,162 people in total. 750 of them are determined by election. These are deputies of local councils and representatives of civil society. The Belarusian People's Congress also includes the President, MPs, representatives of the executive and judicial authorities. The Belarusian People's Congress will be held on April 24-25.
