Traditional Belarusian rite "Pulling Koliada on an Oak Tree" held in Minsk region

A unique rite was held in the village of Noviny, Berezino district. It is a tradition, which the locals have been adhering to for decades. Songs, dances and traditional games are at the center of the event. About 30 years ago the organizers of the event visited this location as part of a folklore research trip and collected information from old residents in order to accurately recreate the ritual. This tradition is officially part of intangible historical and cultural heritage of Belarus and is found on the State List of Historical and Cultural Values.
