The icon of the 17th century returned to Mogilev after restoration
24.02.2026
The collection of Belarusian iconography of the Mogilev Oblast Museum of Local Lore has been filled with another gem: one of the central places of the exhibition "Spiritual Joy shining" is occupied by the icon of Our Lady of Kazan of the 17th century. It has been rediscovered by the specialists of the National Art Museum of Belarus. During the restoration of the icon, the presence of earlier, deeper layers of paintings was revealed. In the process, it turned out that the icon of the 19th century turned out to be a clever case for a work from an earlier period. Having opened the upper artistic layer, the masters saw a letter of exceptional artistic power dating back to the first half of the 17th century.
