On the eve of National Unity Day, the "Tree of Life" sculpture was opened in Minsk in memory of the genocide of the Belarusian people. The symbolic sign was installed on the territory of the former Trostenets concentration camp. The ceremony brought together representatives of local authorities, the prosecutor's office and the clergy, as well as work collectives, schoolchildren and young people. A minute of silence was observed in memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War and flowers were laid at the "Tree of Life". The sculptural composition, about three meters high, depicts many hands reaching upwards. This is the personification of the grief and fortitude of the Belarusian people, their unbending will to live and the memory of those who defended the freedom and independence of Belarus. A similar "Tree of Life" sign is in every region of Belarus. The author of the monument is Vitebsk sculptor Ivan Kazak.
