Minsk named hero city 50 years ago

On this day 50 years ago, Minsk officially received the highest title of "Hero City". A week before the 30th anniversary of the celebration of the liberation of Minsk in 1974, the capital was awarded the "Golden Star". Four years later, the chairman of the presidium, L. Brezhnev, personally visited the capital of the BSSR and presented the award. Minsk became the ninth hero city on the map. The title was bestowed for demonstrated courage. The city was under occupation for 1,100 days and nights. Over 9 thousand underground fighters were secretly waging war at that time.
