Kupalle Celebrated In Belarus

On the night from the 6-th to the 7-th of July, Belarusians traditionally celebrate the ancient folk festival – the Ivan Kupala (related to St.John the Baptist). The event is dedicated to the Sun and blooming of the land and is palled with numerous old-world legends. The main of them says, only once a year, the fern blossoms on the Kupala night. To find it means to get a great luck. The present-day festival features search for the magic flower, as well as reconstruction of other traditional rites. Throughout Belarus, open-air parties and musical and theatrical shows are organized.
