The foundations of a previously unknown
fortification were discovered in
the Narovlyansk district of the Gomel Oblast.
Scientists from the Institute of History of the National Academy
of Sciences worked on
a hill on the outskirts
of the village of Antonov.
In the course of archaeological
research, historians have come across
fragments of masonry dating
back to the XVI-XVII centuries. Presumably,
the foundations of the so-called feudal
defensive courtyard. Archaeologists
have discovered traces of fire
and destruction
of buildings. Today, researchers
do not consider the Antovo Castle as
an architectural and fortification structure. First
of all, it is an archaeological
site. The research of scientists
is aimed at including
the castle in the list
of historical and cultural heritage
of Belarus.
