Belarus marks Archivist’s Day

This professional holiday was established in 2000, the chosen date is connected to the adoption of the Law "On the National Archival Fonds and Archives in the Republic of Belarus" on 6 October 1994. The country's archival repositories comprise over 12 mln documents. The work on these materials continues: more than 1.500 files have been digitized and over 560.000 digital pages were created this year alone. Restoration specialists repair and rebind between 50.000 and 70.000 archival sheets every year. Another key aspect of work is the expansion of the collections. Archives receive materials such as vital records (metric books) and documents from both organizations and individuals.
