In Gomel District, near the village of Chenki, a relict underwater oak grove was discovered at the bottom of the Sozh River. This find is the first in Belarus this year. The weight of one raised trunk reaches almost 15 tonnes. The age of the oldest specimen, according to preliminary estimates, is between 6.000 and 7.000 years. Tar oak is a unique, environmentally friendly material that is valued all over the world for its strength and rich colour range. Along with the oaks, a larch tree about 800 years old was first discovered at the bottom of the river. This type of wood is worth its weight in gold. It is bought in Russia, the UK and Germany.
