The President extended his congratulations to the older generation. Today, the country is home to 1.676.000 people aged 65 and older, 66% of whom are women. More than 73% of the elderly live in large urban areas. Almost one in four pensioners totaling 490.000 people continues to work. Life expectancy in Belarus is also rising: there are 45.000 citizens aged 90 or older, and 660 people have surpassed the age of 100. Supporting the older generation is a priority of state policy; the national strategy "Active Longevity" is dedicated to the well-being of the elderly. Older people actively engage in sports, participate in volunteer activities, and even start families.
