Aleksandr Lukashenko and Ilham Aliyev reaffirmed the strategic nature of bilateral cooperation; reviewed the implementation of the agreements reached during the talks between the two presidents in April in Baku; discussed the prospects for the participation of Belarusian companies in the implementation of large-scale mutually beneficial projects in Azerbaijan. Aleksandr Lukashenko welcomed the fact that a year ago the longstanding confrontation between Azerbaijan and Armenia ended; he specifically emphasized the importance of the start of the peaceful process, which is beneficial to both countries. The President of Belarus also stressed that the restoration of transport communications and economic interaction in the South Caucasus should become the basis for lasting peace in the region and ensure the well-being and safety of all peoples living there. Aleksandr Lukashenko expressed condolences to the families and friends of all the victims of the long-term Karabakh conflict and noted the exceptional importance of the statement adopted a year ago with the mediation of Russia, which stopped the bloodshed. In addition, the Belarusian leader told his colleague that as a sign of friendship between the Belarusian and Azerbaijani peoples, a monument to a native of the city of Ganja, outstanding poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi will be erected in Minsk. This year his 880th anniversary is widely celebrated both in Azerbaijan and beyond the country.
