President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko participates in the UN Climate Summit in Dubai. At the airport, the Belarusian Head of State was greeted by the President of the UAE and the UN Secretary General. Representative delegations from more than 150 countries attend the summit. On the first day, about 90 top officials took part in the plenary session. Before the official opening of the forum, Alexander Lukashenko held negotiations with the leaders of a number of states on the sidelines of the summit. The summit takes place within the framework of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. This document was adopted at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 and came into force two years later. Belarus ratified the convention in 2000 and thus became a full party. Belarus is also a party to the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, adopted as a development of the convention. Its main goal is to prevent dangerous anthropogenic impacts on the planet’s climate system.
