How the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus will work in the future is the main topic of discussion at the Palace of Independence today. The President met with the working group to analyse the work of scientists. It was set up in the summer as a permanent expert team to analyse the work of the Academy of Sciences in detail. Making proposals to improve the work of the Academy of Sciences is the most important task aimed at increasing the efficiency of the scientific sphere. The President is convinced that science is still lagging behind, whereas science should serve the economy and ensure competitive development and well-being of the state and its citizens. Today, the scientific sphere lives on the principle of "research for research sake", but this does not meet the country's development objectives. Belarus has repeatedly approached the question of how to ensure results that meet the demands of the real sector of the economy. The President noted: it's time to work out concrete measures. In the new five-year period, science in all its spheres should be more practice-oriented.
