At the very beginning of the meeting with scientists and polar explorers, the President set a practice-oriented tone concerning scientific research and work in Antarctica. The head of state was also interested in the possibility of commercialization of the presented technical developments. In the course of the meeting Aleksandr Lukashenko was presented an exposition displaying domestic instruments and equipment for Belarusian expeditions, minerals, samples of flora and fauna and other exhibits on the subject of polar research. Our country has been carrying out scientific work on the icy continent since 2006. Then the President personally supported the accession of Belarus to the Antarctic Treaty. It was necessary to preserve the Soviet base and to form a national scientific school on its basis. During the meeting Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that it is encouraging that young people are going into science, a new generation of specialists is developing.
