Belarus should provide itself with fruits of its own production, first of all apples. A statement to this effect was made by President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko while visiting the SPARTAN-AGRO farm near Molodechno, which specializes in fruit growing. The head of state said: "We need to stop bowing to imported apples. We need to have our own apple. But for this we need storage facilities". Today gardeners provide Belarusians with apples from September to February. To avoid spring deficit, special varieties should be planted and modern storages should be built. About 500 hectares of orchards should be planted annually in the country, as well as the range of crops should be expanded. The task is not only to increase domestic consumption, but also to maintain exports.
