The EAEU summit is taking place near St. Petersburg at the Igora all-season resort. The day before, an informal meeting of the CIS heads of state took place here. The meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council is traditionally held in narrow and enlarged compositions. After the leaders of the EAEU countries discuss the strategic directions of the union, they will be joined by the President of Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of Iran and Cuba. The summit was opened by the President of Russia. Vladimir Putin noted that the parties gathered to summarise the results of the outgoing year, discuss current issues of integration construction, consider a number of decisions aimed at further deepening cooperation in the EAEU in various spheres, and outline plans for the future. In total, the summit agenda includes about two dozen issues. The Russian head of state recalled that this year marked the 10th anniversary of the Treaty on the Establishment of the EAEU. He noted that the association has established itself as one of the independent and self-sufficient centres of the emerging multipolar world and continues to develop dynamically. Russia highly appreciates the mutually beneficial multifaceted cooperation with its EAEU partners and is interested in intensifying joint work on comprehensive strengthening of the association. We would like to remind you that Belarus will take over the presidency of the Union in 2025.
