Linen is a calling card of Belarus

Sowing campaign in Belarus continues. In the Minsk region, 40% of the sowing of spring crops is completed. Oilseeds are also being planted. Flax sowing area in the central region was increased by a quarter. There are over 8,000 hectares completely sown with flax today. The "northern silk" is processed by four flax-growing areas. Up to 25 tons of flax per day is processed by a line in Slutsk to get high quality flax. Fabrics are made from it at a factory in Orsha. Raw materials are also bought in Russia. The harvest time for fiber flax is September. Farmers of the Minsk region alone plan to harvest 28,000 tons of flax straw.
