The government has put caps on selling and retail prices for certain types of domestic products from January through May 2022. This mainly concerns Belarus-produced vegetables. These products have seen a significant hike in price in Belarus and neighboring countries. According to the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade, last year inflation was slightly less than 10 percent, while the prices for fruit and vegetables increased by almost 17.5 percent. To protect the domestic market, the Council of Ministers adopted a decree that specifies maximum selling and retail prices for a set of vegetable staples (including fresh potatoes, beets, cabbage, carrots) and apples.
