In Grodno, a nativity scene with living animals was unveiled ahead of the Christmas celebrations. An improvised crib with figures of the newborn Christ and Saints was installed near the Kolozha church known fr om the 12th century. Among the animals were goats and lambs. The tradition of "living" nativity scenes came from Western Europe, wh ere during Christmas celebrations the central squares of the cities for Christmas feature small pens with animals, surrounded by which the Savior was born. In Grodno, the “living” nativity scene is planned to become traditional.
