Lake Naroch is a small wonder of the world for Belarusians. Because of its size –almost 80 km² – it was named “Belarusian sea”. Naroch is on the list of the cleanest lakes in Belarus and attracts many tourists with its unique beauty.

The pond was formed several millennia ago due to the melting of a glacier. In the flooded area, the water level began to drop over time, which resulted the formation of the Narochanskiye Lakes.

Legend has it that the lake was named after a beautiful girl with an enchanting voice, Nara. According to the story, she met a gentleman at the lake, who wanted to marry the girl and was flatly rejected. Nara already had a fiancé. The gentleman ordered his servants to kill the young man and take Nara to his house. The order was fulfilled, but the girl could not live next to the terrible man who killed her lover. She burned down the house of the kidnapper and ran away. The servants caught up with Nara by the lake, where the gentleman met her. However, the beauty refused to return to captivity and preferred to drown herself in the lake. The lake got its title from the name of the poor bride.

The lake is located in Myadel district and is the main pearl of the Narochansky National Park. The pond takes one of the first places among the lakes of Belarus in terms of water transparency and purity. In summer the water transparency allows you to see up to 5-7 metres deep into the water, and in winter – all 10 metres. The water in Naroch is rich in oxygen and saturated with minerals.

There are 25 species of fish in the waters of the lake. For example, pike and river eel, which is included in the Red Book. There are various rare waterfowl. Among them are the mute swan, terns and ospreys, little grebes.

Naroch is a real catch for recreation. On its shores there are both sanatoriums and health resorts (for example, the sanatorium “Naroch”, “Sosny”, “Priozerny”) and estates. Everyone will find a holiday to their liking on the shores of this beautiful lake.

In hot weather, the chilly pleasant breeze cools the air. Transparent water of the lake and greenery on its shores pleases the eye and brings to mind that a holiday in Belarus cannot be considered complete if you have not visited Lake Naroch.
