Commemorative events to mark Victory Day were held the day before in Europe. In Vienna, flowers were laid at the monument to Soviet soldiers who perished during the liberation of Austria from the Nazis. Delegations from Belarus, Armenia, Russia, Kazakhstan and other countries of the former Soviet Union honored the memory of war heroes. 17 thousand Soviet soldiers were killed during the liberation of the Austrian capital. The memorial represents a 12-meter pedestal with a statue of a Red Army soldier wearing a golden helmet and a legendary Shpagin submachine gun on his chest. The commemorative ceremony took place in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.
