According to the case file, the accused, Hans Eugen Siegling, was an SS officer. The Nazi died in December 1978 in the Federal Republic of Germany, never having been punished for his crimes. In the Byelorussian SSR, Siegling commanded a Ukrainian police company, and later the 57th Security Police Battalion created on its basis, carrying out criminal orders from the highest levels of Nazi Germany.
