The Great Lent has begun for Orthodox believers in Belarus

The Great Lent is the most severe and longest of the multi-day fasts of the Orthodox Church. It lasts seven weeks and consists of the actual forty-day fast, which represents the forty-day fast of Jesus Christ in the desert and the fast of the Passion Week. This year, the Great Lent will last from 23 February to 11 April. The first and last weeks of the Great Lent are considered the most severe.
