The banner with the face of the Apostle and Evangelist Matthew was solemnly handed over to Brest customs
17.02.2026
The ceremony took place in St. Nicholas Garrison Cathedral. Archbishop John of Brest and Kobrin performed a prayer of thanksgiving, consecrated and handed over the spiritual banner to the head of Brest customs Sergei Yakuta. The banner depicts the coat of arms of the customs on one side, and the image of the Apostle Matthew on the other, who before meeting with Christ, served as a tax collector. Leaving his home and fortune, he followed the Savior and became one of the 12 apostles. He is considered the patron saint of customs officers.
