Festival of spring, peace and unity held in Grodno
More than 600 students from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, who study at Yanka Kupala University in Grodno, celebrated Novruz Bayram, the ancient holiday of spring, renewal of nature and the beginning of a new astronomical year. This year students from Japan, China and the Republic of Yemen joined the event. The tasting of national cuisine was the culmination of the program. Sumalyak or malt halva is the main ritual treat during Novruz, as well as samsa, dolma, shurpa. The participnats reproduced the traditions of home holidays, when representatives of all generations gather at one table. A huge cake from the university, which has become a home for a large multinational family of students from different countries, became a sweet gift for the participants of the festival.
