Closing the border with Belarus will hit the Lithuanians themselves
05.11.2025
Tens of thousands of Lithuanian residents will suffer due to the closure of the border with Belarus. This warning was issued by the Lithuanian Association of Road Carriers. Currently, about 2.000 Lithuanian trucks, 3.000 semi-trailers and several thousand drivers are stuck at the border. The consequences of downtime can affect up to 35.000 people, and the state budget will receive only minimal rates instead of regular taxes. According to the association, about 7.000 Lithuanian companies are involved in the transport services market. Due to the current situation, carriers may lose about €70 mln in revenue in just one month, and the total amount of losses may reach €1 bln.
