Belarusian Antarctic Expedition was launched at the National Academy of Sciences yesterday. 12 people will travel to the coldest continent of the Earth under the guidance of an experienced polar explorer Aleksei Gaidashov. Belarus has been conducting scientific research in Antarctica since 2006. During the previous expedition, the specialists had a lot of work, in particular on the creation of the station. New scientific facilities were put into operation, comprehensive terrestrial and satellite monitoring of the atmosphere and the underlying surface in Antarctica was organized, as well as hydrochemical, biological, and ecological studies of terrestrial, marine, and freshwater ecosystems in Antarctica, monitoring of the ozone layer, and research on Earth's climate change.
