Belarus plans to ban abortions in private medical centres
27.01.2026
The initiative to ban abortions in private medical centers is reflected in the draft of the new Healthcare Code. Pre-abortion counseling is an important step in helping women make an informed decision about terminating pregnancy. It emphasizes psychological support and medical risks, which can significantly influence patient's choice. After a consultation, 20% of women in private centers change their minds, while in public centres, this figure reaches 35-40%. Currently in Belarus, induced abortion is permitted up to 12 weeks of pregnancy, and for strict medical indications (such as a threat to the mother's life or fetal abnormalities) up to 22 weeks.
