The President signs law on amnesty for 80th anniversary of Great Victory
On the eve of the holiday, this document marks the manifestation of humanism in society. Most of the convicts who fell under the amnesty have fully compensated for the harm caused by the crime. An important condition is a positive characteristic during the period of serving the sentence. The law provides for both exemption from punishment and mitigation of punishment for committing crimes. This applies to minors, pregnant women, women and single men with children under 18 years of age, persons with disabilities and persons affected by the Chernobyl disaster. A number of innovations are also provided. In particular, the list of persons fully exempted from punishment is supplemented by a new category of citizens with certain diseases. According to preliminary estimates, the amnesty will affect almost 8.000 convicts.
