The President of Belarus signed a directive on the inadmissibility of price increases
The document was adopted in order to immediately and firmly respond to the current situation in the consumer market. In order to protect the interests of citizens and organizations of Belarus, prevent further price increases, establish an effective system of price control and supply the domestic consumer market with goods, the directive introduced a ban on price increases and obligations to unconditionally saturate the domestic market with goods and services. Liability is provided for improper fulfillment of the requirements set out in the directive. A working group headed by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova has been set up to work out measures to regulate prices. She was instructed to develop and submit to the Council of Ministers proposals on measures to improve price regulation within ten days, to ensure ongoing monitoring of prices and the state of the consumer market, to inform regulatory and law enforcement agencies of identified violations in order to take response measures. The government has been tasked with approving and putting into effect a system of price regulation by October 20, based on the proposals of the working group, and ensuring effective control over price discipline.
