The President introduced draft law to the Parliament
The process of reforming the legislation continues in Belarus. The President, making use of his right of legislative initiative, introduced a draft law "On Amending the Codes on Criminal Liability" into the Parliament. The draft law was developed by a working group specially created under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus. Specialized specialists conducted a systematic analysis of the criminal and criminal procedure laws taking into account the instructions of the Head of State given at the meeting on 11 January. The sanctions of 97 crimes have been revised. Of these, 65 offenses have been supplemented with alternative, more lenient types of punishment. The relevant measures will allow courts to take a more flexible approach to the issues of sentencing, taking into account the public danger of the crime and the personality of the perpetrator.
