President meets with Synod of Belarusian Orthodox Church
Interfaith harmony is Belarus' most important achievement, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with the Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church. Upon hid arrival at the Minsk diocesan administration, Aleksandr Lukashenko, together with Metropolitan Veniamin, visited the Church of the Cathedral of All Belarusian Saints, where he lit a candle. "Solid foundations have been laid in our country for cooperation between the Belarusian Orthodox Church and our government, the state as a whole. It could not be otherwise. The history of Orthodoxy in the Belarusian lands is inextricably linked with the history of our statehood," the president said. Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that the meeting with the Synod is of great importance now, on the eve of important political events within the country and in the context of difficult situation in foreign affairs. The role of the church is to preserve our traditional spiritual values.
