President inaugurates bleached sulfate pulp plant in Svetlogorsk
Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko took part in a ceremony to officially inaugurate the production of bleached sulfate pulp at Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Mill. A new plant was set up in 2012. However, serious difficulties and contradictions emerged between partners in the process of work. As a result, it took a much longer period of time to launch a new production facility. Bleached sulfate pulp is in high demand on the international market and is an important part of the country’s import-substituting effort. Bleached sulfate pulp is used to make wallpaper, packaging materials, writing paper, cardboard and other products. 5 years ago over $10 million were spent on such imports. The launch of the new production line will allow the plant to finally reach its estimated capacity. Three quarters of the products will be exported. Last year, foreign currency earnings exceeded $ 64 million. The sales markets are diverse: from the European Union to China and the entire region of Asia.
