21.03.2024

The role of the Parliament is not about a number of laws but about the creation of optimal conditions for peaceful and dynamic development of the state and society, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he met with the outgoing deputies of the House of Representatives and members of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation.

The National Assembly of the seventh convocation adopted 364 laws, 11 of which were sponsored by the House of Representatives and one by the Council of the Republic, he added:

But the point is not about the number of legislative acts you have adopted, but in the creation of optimal legal conditions for peaceful and dynamic development of all areas of life of the state and our society. Given the realities in which the National Assembly of the seventh convocation had to operate, the key goal of lawmaking was to secure the quality of sovereignty of the Belarusian state.

The amendments and additions to the Basic Law of the country marked a new stage of state-legal construction. The outlines of the Constitution amendments were revealed in the course of a large-scale public dialogue which culminated in the sixth Belarusian People's Congress. Deputies of the House of Representatives and members of the Council of the Republic were members of the Constitutional Commission that was actively engaged in the development of proposals and large-scale explanatory work with our population.

According to the President, by voting in favor of the proposed changes in the referendum, people chose a strong state based on the national traditions of people's power, ideals of peace, humanism and social justice as a model for further development of Belarus.

The updated Constitution was virtually developed by the people and for the people, the Belarusian leader emphasized.
