Legislation on citizenship considered by President

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko held a meeting on improving the legislation on citizenship, and amnesty. The head of state stressed that the topic of citizenship is always given the closest attention. Each application for citizenship is carefully examined. Over the past five years, about 14,000 people have received Belarusian citizenship on various grounds. People from different states strive to become citizens of Belarus, primarily from the post-Soviet space. Also, natives of Asia, Europe and even America move to our country. The President instructed to accelerate the granting of Belarusian citizenship to Ukrainians. Over one year, about 5,000 people received the new status. Belarus is open to honest and hardworking people, those who are ready to contribute to its development. As for the decision on amnesty, as the President emphasized, it is permissible only for those who really deserve it.
