Improving criminal legislation and the proposed amnesty were discussed with Belarus President
Belarus President held a meeting on certain issues of improving criminal legislation. One of the topics was the proposed amnesty for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus. The state gives an opportunity to early release from serving a sentence to those who have taken the path of correction. This act of mercy is held on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazis. The position of the President is that the amnesty should be different, taking into account the specifics of the important date. The state will have to take a closer look at convicted women, children, and a number of other categories. The principle that must be followed strictly in these and other matters: the punishment must correspond to the crime. The criminal policy must be subordinated to the principles of proportionality, Alexander Lukashenko is convinced. On behalf of the President, a number of articles of the Criminal Code were analyzed and revised. Some still cause debates. Therefore, criminal legislation must be further improved.
