A. Lukashenko visits St. Ilya Church of the Holy Dormition Convent in Orsha on Easter
The church was founded in the 17th century. It survived the years of closure, religious service resumed during the Great Patriotic War. The real revival of the spiritual center began in 1996. The Belarusian President is always greeted with special warmth in his homeland. The President’s words in the church sounded very heartfelt. Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke about what worries everyone, about peace and our future. The current moment is difficult; now more than ever, the unity of people is needed. This year, literally right after Easter, the country will celebrate Victory Day. These holidays are in tune with the peace-loving policy of Belarus. Aleksandr Lukashenko donated the icon of the Resurrection of Christ to the St. Ilya Church. In response, the abbess of the monastery presented the head of state an icon of Alexander Nevsky with the wish that the saint would patronize him in all matters and endeavors.
